A Maryland congressman was supposedly kept from going into the US House chamber on Thursday when his gun set off the recently introduced metal detectors.
Republican Rep. Andy Harris was halted after House security “saw a gun on [his] individual” and he never made it onto the floor while outfitted, a Capitol official told.
Prior to leaving, Harris attempted to pass the firearm to New York Rep. John Katko, who would not hold it since he isn’t authorized to do as such, as per a correspondent who saw the occurrence.
Harris got back to the House chamber security designated spot around 10 minutes after the fact, enduring without setting off the magnetometer, report.
In an explanation to the Sun, Capitol Police said they are investigating the issue.
House individuals are permitted to convey guns on Capitol grounds, yet are banned from entering the floor while outfitted, as indicated by the reports.
Metal detectors were introduced at select doorways to the House chamber to reinforce security in wake of the Capitol riot.
A few Republican officials glaringly ridiculed the new security measures. Accordingly, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reported another standard fining individuals who don’t follow the new safety protocols.
